These are guidelines put in place by the NGB the RFU. However schools may find it harder to comply with these rules due to space/fund restrictions: A senior pitch must be: * No longer than 100m in length. * No more than 68m in width.
IRB regulations state that the playing pitch length shall not exceed 100 meters with a further 10 - 22 meters at each end for the "in goal" area

The field has to be 120 meters in length (including 10 meters each goal-line area) and the width has to be approx half that.
Goal line to goal line shall not exceed 100meters with an ingoal area added at each end that shall not exceed 22 meters from the goal line - The width shall not exceed 70 meters touch line to touch line

DIMENSIONS FOR GOAL POSTS AND CROSSBAR

(a) The distance between the two goal posts is 5.6 metres.

(b) The crossbar is placed between the two goal posts so that its top edge is 3.0 metres from the ground.

(c) The minimum height of the goal posts is 3.4 metres.

(d) When padding is attached to the goal posts the distance from the goal line to the external edge of the padding must not exceed 300mm.

There is no set limit to how high the poles can be. But they must be at least 3m apart from one another. Also the crossbar must be around 3m above the ground.
