Nigel Mansell became Formula One World Champion in 1992 behind the wheel of a Williams F1 car (FW14B which had a Renault V10 F1 engine). He had 9 victories, 3 second places and 4 retirements en route to his 108 point championship winning campaign, becoming the 7th British driver to win the title in F1 history (since 1950). 5 of his victories came on the trot, and his 9 victories in a season stood as a record until it was surpassed by Michael Schumacher. He also won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award in 1992.
