Then in the 2011 season Tom Brady threw for 5,235 (not counting playoffs), Matthew Stafford threw for 5,038 (not counting playoffs), and Drew Brees lit up for a record setting 5,476 (not counting playoffs). Honorable mention: Eli Manning threw for 4,933 (not counting playoffs).
With so many quarterbacks obliterating the old mark set by Dan Marino you could argue that recent rule changes have greatly worked for the advantage of NFL quarterbacks.
As of October 30, 2016, 18 NFL quarterbacks have had 500-plus passing yards in one game. Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints each accomplished the feat twice:
1) 554 - Norm Van Brocklin of the Los Angeles Rams against the New York Yanks on September 28, 1951. The Rams won 54-14.
2) 527 - Warren Moon of the Houston Oilers against the Kansas City Chiefs on December 16, 1990. The Oilers won 27-10.
2) 527 - Matt Shaub of the Houston Texans against the Jacksonville Jaguars on November 18, 2012. The Texans won 43-37 in overtime.
4) 522 - Boomer Esiason of the Arizona Cardinals against the Washington Redskins on November 10, 1996. The Cardinals won 37-34.
4) 522 - Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Indianapolis Colts on October 26, 2014. The Steelers won 51-34.
6) 521 - Dan Marino of the Miami Dolphins against the New York Jets on October 23, 1988. The Dolphins lost 44-30.

On average 13 to 15 million people watch an NFL playoffs game now this number can and will change depending on what team is playing , time slot and the network that is broadcasting said game.
