What is a male ballerina called?

Because you said "Ballerina" that means the top ballet dancer in a company. There can only be one Ballerina in a company. The male counterpart would be called a Danseur Nobel. Other male dancers would be called Danseurs, or by their rank such as Principal, Soloist or Corps de ballet or just ballet dancer. The same goes for the other women in the company. They would be just called ballet dancers or by their rank. Never a Ballerina.

If a female is a ballerina what is a male ballet dancer called?

The term "danseur" is a French term meaning "male ballet dancer." Just as "danseuse" is the female equivalent. And the term "ballerina" actually is an Italian phrase for the PRINCIPAL female ballet dancer. But it has since been used by now to label ANY female taking ballet. Still, just as "ballerina" is a female ballet dancer--"ballerino" is the male equivalent in Italian.

What is the name for a male ballet dancer?

A danseur or a ballerino and NOT a ballerina because that is the feminine form of ballet dancer

What is a male ballet performer called?

They can be called Danseur's, some call them Ballerino's... but many male dancer's don't like that. Or they can be called just- Male Dancer. I was a professional dancer for 11 years and I appreciated Danseur, it's more respectful. Ballerino sounds to much like Ballerina.

What is the difference between male and female ballet moves?

If you are a ballerina (girl dancer) you can dance en pinte when you are strong enough. If you are a male ballet dancer you do alot more jumps and you lift the ballerinas (female dancers) up. Hope I helped!

What do you call a female dancer in spanish?

A ballerina. The term "ballerina" refers to a PRINCIPAL dancer in a ballet company, not any girl who takes ballet. Although now the term seems to apply to any little lady in the craft. The real term (though little-known) for a female dancer other than the principal dancer is "danseuse."--A MALE Ballet Dancer, Dane Youssef

What do you call a boy ballet dancer?

A young male dancer, is nowdays known as just that ' A Dancer'.The formal name is 'DANSEUR' but it is really a bit over the top for everyday use. The only thing to REALLY remember is NOT to call a male dancer a BALLERINA. This name not only is incorrect, it creates the wrong perception of the male dancer. That is soft, girly and fairy like. Male dancers are actually nothing of the sort, irrespective of their sexual preference.According to Wikipedia and The Free Dictionary the proper name for a male ballet dancer is "danseur".You can also refer to a male ballet dancer as a "Balleroux" (Prenounced bah-leh-ROO)There are several terms--"danseur," "ballerino," "male ballet dancer." Or just "dancer." I know an especially popular and fitting one--"brave."

In English there are no masculine or feminine forms. English uses gender specific nouns for male or female. The term 'prima ballerina' is a gender specific noun for the female lead in a ballet company. There is no corresponding gender specific noun for a male. The noun 'ballerina' is from Italian. The male dancer is a ballerino.

What kind of ballerinas are there?

by 'ballerinas' do you mean ballet dancers? ballerina is the title given to only the princable dancer in the company. there are students who are train at a ballet academy or train as apprentices at a professional company. there are soloists, who get to play parts like the 'blue bird' in sleeping beauty which have solo dances. and there are ballerinas, ballerinos (male princables) and prima ballerina. (sometimes there are more then one ballerina in the one company so one dancer is named the prima ballerina. a great honour) hope this answered your question!
