A walk off hit is a hit that ends the game. This term was coined in reference to the opposing pitcher having to "walk off" the mound in defeat. However, the winning team also gets to walk off, with a in.

A walk off win can only happen when the game is in the 9th inning or later (extra innings) and the home team scores the winning run.

A 'walk off' is a hit, or any other action, in the bottom of the 9th inning or the bottom any inning after that, which drives in the game-winning run. It is so named because since the earned run ends the game immediately, everyone can walk off the field.

A walk off is when the home team scores the winning run in the bottom of the final inning, and the hitter and any baserunners get to walk off the field with the victory. Most games end when a team that holds the lead records the final out. Somehow when the defense walks off the field as the winners, it is not considered walking off.

A walk off in Baseball is a home run in the bottom of the 9th that drives in more than the necessary amount of runs to win the game, thus allowing the batter to 'walk off' the field after reaching first base and before reaching home because his run is unnecessary.

A so -called walk off victory in baseball is created when the home team hits a single to a home run, that breaks a tie with the visiting team. In baseball, unlike some other major sports in the USA, the visiting team bats first, the home team bats second. Thus whenever there is a tie score in the 9th inning or in extra innings, the home team always bats last. Thus any run scored by the home team to break the tie wins the game. So a walk-off victory is produced if even a single drives in the last run.

Is Walk off baseball definition limited to a walk off home run What about an RBI that scores the winning run from 1st The batter would have to run to 1st before the runner could score from 1st?

The term 'walk off' refers to when the home team wins the game in the ninth inning or a later inning. It doesn't have anything to do with the type of play but simply that whatever play occurred was the play that scored the winning run for the home team. You can have a walk off base bit (single, double, triple, or home run), a walk off walk, a walk off hit by pitch, a walk off error, even a walk off balk.

What mean of off?

The term always follows a verb, and can nearly always be written more precisely as "off." c.f.: Get off (of) the couch, move off (of) my foot, walk off (of) the pier. In each instance, removing "of" improves the construction.
