What is the difference between a regular and stiff golf club?

The easiest way to describe it is that the regular shaft is more flexible than the stiff one. The stiffer the shaft the quicker the swing speed needs to be to get the best from it. Also, stiffer shafts allow the ball to be hit farther, which is an exciting prospect for many amateurs but if someone with a slower swing hits a stiff shaft they will always hit low blocks instead of a nice high straight shot which they could with a regular.

What companies sell uniflex steel golf shafts?

True Temper sells a uniflex steel shaft. This flex is soft, like a regular shaft but is supposed to be as stable as a stiff shaft and helps to increase the trajectory of the ball. Callaway and Nike have options for purchasing clubs with True Temper Uniflex Shafts.

Can a senior high handicap do ok with a senior steel shaft.you seem to feel the club more?

Seniors will do fine as long as the shaft is regular flex and not stiff flex. Low torque shafts are great as well. They really let you fell the club head.

How stiff is the x100 true temper iron shafts?

What should a golfer do first or get fitted for golf clubs or take lessons?

The best thing to do is to get your lessons, this is because custom fitted clubs will be made for your swing. If you swing the club quite fast, and you got fitted, you may get stiff shafts, and then you got a lesson and your professional said, slow your swing down, then the stiff shafts may not be the best for your game. Also if you hold you hands low and got fitted they would give you clubs with a flatter lie angle, but if your professional got you to raise your hands up slightly the clubs will cause you to block it. I would recommend getting your swing in shape and then get clubs fitted when you are satisfied and can consistently repeat the same swing.

What is the difference between a ladies shaft and a seniors shaft on golf clubs?

Something labeled senior flex will probably be more flexible than regular. There is no real standardization among shaft makers, but typically they are ordered (from most to least flexible) L - Ladies A - Senior R - Regular S - Stiff X - eXtra stiff The rule of thumb is that slower swingers do better with more flexible shafts, because if timed right the flex can add some power and height to the shot. The "A" designation between Ladies and Regular flex doesn't stand for anything in particular. They couldn't use "S" for the Senior flex because it was already being used as the designation for "Stiff" flex. The abbreviation for Senior, "Sr.", could also be confused with a "Regular/Stiff" flex. So in an attempt to avoid confusion (or possibly add a little), the letter "A" was decided upon as the designation for the Senior flex shaft.

Which comes first firm flex or stiff flex in a shaft?

There's no "firm" answer (yuk, yuk!). Shafts stiffness is specified by the manufacturer, so there's no objective determinant of what's stiff, firm, regular, or whatever. Typically, players with normal swing speeds will use R (Regular) shafts, while faster swingers will go for stiffer ones, but that's no guarantee, just the way to bet.

Will a stiff graphite shaft be similar to a steel shaft?

The companies that make shafts for golf clubs will have a specification listed on the shaft itself such as "Stiff" of "Juniors". We call it "Flex". The flex standard may be the same on a graphite or steel shaft made by one company and nearly the same as made by another company. It is kind of like sizes for cloths. Both graphite and steel shafts come in "Stiff" flex. Companies may use the word "Mens" in place of "Stiff" or "Juniors" in place of a "not so stiff" shaft. Consult with your local Golf Coach or Golf Professional and they can explain more about the flex in a shaft or other things like "kick points" in a shaft.
