Should you get a bmx to do tricks if none of your friends have a bmx?

Depends on how fun you think riding will be, and how fun you think your friends are.
Riding more will mean you won't see as much of your friends, unless they start riding too.
But if there are other riders around, getting a bike and starting to ride is a great way to make some friends in that crowd instead.

Should you get a bmx or a skateboard?
If you actually want to go somewhere besides the skate park or your neighborhood, go with a BMX-style bike. You can go farther while doing some tricks here and there, not to mention they're probably faster. If you want to do some major tricks, though, go with a skateboard. You can do much more complicated tricks on a skateboard and they are actually meant for doing stunts, where as BMX bikes are just modified.
