No, if anything more emphasis should be placed on academic subjects. Knowledge is much more important to most than sports for their futures.
Sports and atheltics are important as well, and a balance should be sought.

∙ 9y agoThe title of "student athlete" comes into play here. Sports are extra curricular activities while academics are the business of schools. Grade first, sports second is the norm in education.
I wouldn't go as far as quit offering them, but there needs to be a lowering of emphasis on them, especially with sports. The priority is academics. Playing football in high school and college is not going to teach you how to manage your money when you go pro. There needs to be extracurricular activities though. Studies have shown that students stay out of trouble and do better in their classes when they have those kinds of activities to do.
There are lots of very good academic schools with good sports teams but it depends on where you live. If you live in California a UC has great academics and sports. take Stanford for example they are ranked number 9 in the country for football and top ten in academics. If you are talking in specific regions there are PAC-10, big 10, and sec schools.
Sports
It's certainly arguable that schools shouldn't offer sports at all and should instead focus on academics. That said, intramural sports (those where teams from different schools compete) do have some beneficial aspects. But at a sixth grade level, exactly which sports they are should be carefully thought out, since people at that age range are not yet fully developed physically, and it's vital to not overtax the developing body in such a way that would damage it. If the choice is between "no sports at all" and "all the sports played at the high school level", then the former is definitely the better choice.
Yes it can.
No
No, definitely not.
Obesity that's why.
it depneds on the school's budget and financial status. If the school is very keen on funding sports and sports equitment to the school, then chances are they are going to have more sports. some schools however may not have the time and money to provide to schools sporting teams. however i believe that schools should have alot of sports team's for exercise and fun.
