No, weight training is not just for men. Weight training is not gender specific, neither is any other form of exercise. Young or old, male or female, everyone can benefit from weight training (under normal circumstances).

Women Lifting Weights

For the most part, there is nothing wrong with a woman doing weight training.

As you would advise anyone, a man or a woman: take it slow, don't forget to warm up and warm down, and drink plenty of fluids. If you have any other medical conditions check with your doctor first.

Many women are concerned that they will bulk up and look unfeminine. This is not usually a concern. Women are built differently than men. They won't look like men just from lifting weights.

Moreover, building muscle will help you to lose weight. More muscles means you can burn more calories.

One caveat: some women do have a tendency to build muscle. You might have especially wide shoulders, for example, and any additional muscle will show. You might want to have a weight trainer make suggestions for your workout.

Women often hesitate to start a weight training program because they believe it might make them look too manly. That is a myth because women do not have enough testosterone to develop muscles to the extent that men do. What will happen is that a woman will develop muscles and look more shapely. Developing more muscles on your body will increase your metabolism, give you more energy and improve your self-confidence.

The first step in creating a good workout routine is to identify your fitness goals. It will take a little time to develop your muscles, but with the right exercise plan, you will succeed. You can work on problem areas such as thighs, hips and buttocks or you can do light weights that will simply increase your metabolism. If you are not familiar with proper nutrition, it is important that you learn everything you can about it. Nutrition and weight training go hand in hand. You simply cannot add very much muscle without increasing the protein in your diet. Fitness experts say that nutrition is half the equation when it comes to developing a fit body.

There are three key components to increasing your physical fitness level. These components include flexibility, aerobic fitness and weight training. Increasing your flexibility requires learning how to properly stretch each day. Increasing your aerobic fitness can be done by walking, biking or swimming. Weight training involves learning how to train your body with the right kinds of weight training exercises.

To increase your flexibility, stretch until you feel slight resistance. Relax, and hold the position for at least one minute. After several days, try to go a little further but be careful not to overdo it. Aerobics will help you lose weight faster combined with dieting and exercise. If your muscles are hidden behind a layer of fat, it will take longer for you to see results. To keep your motivation high, you need to do aerobics six days a week. A successful weight training program requires you to learn how to do the exercises with strict form. Learn everything you can about weight training and you will be on your way to developing a better body.

Generally, no. Women do not have "proportional" upper body strength like guys. That's not to say they can't bench their weight, but they don't have to do that to be in modestly good shape.

Where can I find out about weight training for women?

The first place to look for more information on weight training for women would be your local physician, for medical clearance, and then an area gym that provides athletic training or personal training as these people are experts on strength and resistance training.

What is the scientifically base facts about the fallacy weight training is strictly for men?

For practical examples, we can view images of Chyna (Joanie Laurer), Beth Phoenix, and Jane Tricker. Biologically, it is often more difficult for women to build large amounts of muscle mass than it is for men, due to a different balance of hormones, specifically, testosterone. However, weight training (or more generally, resistance training) can be very beneficial to both men and women of almost any age. As women get older, they are more susceptible to loss of bone density than are men, though the effect is common to both genders. Resistance training helps to maintain muscle tone and strength, and as a result, promotes stronger and denser bones. Resistance training is a necessary compliment to aerobic training in achieving, maintaining, and promoting a healthy body, along with a good diet and active lifestyle. A healthy body is beneficial to men and women, old and young.

Why is it that weight training is just for men?

It isn't. But men are generally bigger, and can have a larger proportion of muscle mass, so they can get better at it. Men in general are more interested than women in becoming stronger. How much you can bench press is a more popular topic of discussion among men than among women. Weight training can also make you more muscular, more stocky, which is a more popular look for men than for women. But anybody can do weight training, and everybody can benefit from it. If you're worried about what body shape you'll end up with, this is easily controlled through the type of exercises you do and how you do them.
