Any time you subject a piercing to abuse from impacts or any other rough contact the chances are high the piercing will become irritated and possibly reject due to the trauma. So you are fore warned that should you fail to protect your piercings, you will quite possibly lose the piercings through rejection. Wear a PTFE or Bioplast barbell in the piercing and cover the piercing with a bandage that is securely taped down may minimize the possible damage from direct contact.
