Yes it is. Par means average. When playing Golf you try to sink the ball in the least amount of shots. The less you get under par (average) the better.

In golf do you want plus or - numbers?

This isn't quite related to math or algebra in any way, shape or form, but to answer your question, you want - (negative) numbers, as this determines how many strokes under par you are, +0 is par, 1 is a bogey, and is worse than par, -1 is a birdie and is better than par.

What is two under par in golf called?

One under par for a hole is one shot less than par, say you make a 3 on a par 4, this is a birdie. One under for a round is where you had a round which was one shot less than par, say you shot 71 on a par 72.For holes played, or for that round, or for the tournament, the player has taken one less shot to play those holes than par.

What is the difference between shuttlecocks and birdies?

Shuttlecocks are the feathered equivalent of a tennis ball, used in the game of Badminton. Birdies or Birdie is a technical term used in Golf to indicate one under par. So if the usual form for a hole is par 4 (normally holed in 4 shots) then a birdie would be to pot the ball in one under this (3 shots). Other terms used in Golf to indicate the significance of how many shots against the par are: Albatross - 3 under par Eagle - 2 under par Birdie - 1 under par Par - Matched the given expectation of shots for this hole Bogey - 1 over par Double Bogey - 2 over par Triple Bogey - 3 over par and so on. Hope that answers your question. David

What is two strokes over par?

The term "eagle" means scoring two under par (−2). Eagles usually occur when golfers hit the ball far enough to reach the green with fewer strokes than expected. This most commonly happens on par fives, though it occasionally occurs on short par-fours. A hole in one on a par-three hole also results in an eagle. The name is simply analogous to a birdie (see above); the name "eagle" was used as a larger bird representing a better score.

How did bogey get its name in golf?

A bogey is what you get when you complete a hole in one more stroke than what is par for that hole. Par is the number of strokes you are supposed to take on a given hole and there are par 3's,4's, and 5's on a golf course
