What is the cover play in softball?

there are alot of possible cover plays in softball. covering means to back up other players on several possible situations on the field or it means a player should go to a base whether asigned to her or not. These are plays needed to be done in practice. One example of a cover play is to assign the SS or 2nd base to cover 2nd base from a stolen base from 1st base.Outfielders should cover infield players on any play to any of the infielders to make sure that balls will be protected if it passes any midfielder

What is the best infield position for a good athlete with average size slightly above average speed good reflexes soft hands a strong arm and good instincts?

A good position for that player would be third base or shortstop because it is the longest throws in the infield and the kid has great arm strength so he can make the throw.

If a runner who was called out on the infield fly rule passes the runner on first is it a double play?

No, it is not. The batter is immediately out, and he can have no further affect on the play, unless he interferes with a fielder attempting to make a play or assists one of the runners on base.

What is the call on the batter on a fly ball?

If there are runners on 1st and 3rd or bases loaded with less than two outs and the fly ball is in the infield, the umpire calls "Infield fly, the batter is out." In this case, the batter is out whether the ball is caught or dropped and all runners may return to their bases with no risk. If a runner wants to advance a base, they may do so at their won risk.If a batter hits a fly ball to the infield without the condition stated above, then it is like a normal fly ball, if it is caught it's and out. If it is not caught it is a safe ball and the defensive player must try to make the play at the base. These same rules for a fly-ball hit into the outfield.

What is a second baseman?

A second baseman is an infielder who is usually stationed between first and second base. He is usually in charge of second base, but the short stop can also make plays there.

In baseball terms is it prohop or crowhop?

Crow hop. A crow hop is a technique (for lack of a better term) that is used by outfielders when they are fielding a ball directly in front of them and need to make a quick throw into the infield to keep a runner from advancing an extra base. The ball is fielded on the glove hand side with the same leg forward (right leg for lefties, left leg for righties). Once the ball is in the fielder's glove, they kick their trailing leg up and forward and turn their foot at an angle so when it lands it is perpendicular to the target they are throwing to. While doing this they are also positioning their their non throwing shoulder towards the target. This should put the body at an angle to make a straight and direct throw to the target.

In baseball who made a shoestring catch of an infield fly to save a World Series?

Source the baseballlibrary site: Billy Martin alertness saved the seventh game of the 1952 world series for the Yankees 4-2. In the seventh inning with the bases loaded and two outs Jackie Robinson hit a pop-up near the pitchers mound. It seemed to freeze the entire Yankee infield until Martin raced in from his 2nd base position to make a lunging catch to end the inning.

What should your Fantasy Baseball League roster look like Well I am a league manager in an ESPN Fantasy Baseball League and do not know how many players to set my roster to?

In the MLB there are 25 players on a team. If you want to make it as realistic as possible you should that. But if you like a challenge you could do a 40 man roster. Another problem is that you need to know how many players you need per position. If you decided to do a 25 man roster I recommend one catcher, 2 first basemen (because that is the most plentiful position in all of baseball), 1 second basemen, 1 shortstop, 1 first base/third base, 5 outfielders, 3 bench players (either batter or pitcher), and 11 pitchers. For a 40 man roster i recommend 2 catchers, 3 first basemen, 2 second basemen, 2 shortstops, 1 second base/shortstop, 1 third base/first base, 7 outfielders, 6 bench players, and 16 pitchers

What does a first baseman do in baseball?

Official rule book section 7.08 (f) Any runner is out when he is touched by a fair ball in fair territory before the ball has touched or passed an infielder. The ball is dead and no runners may score, nor runners advance, except runners forced to advance. The only exception is, if a runner is touching his base when touched by an infield fly, he is not out. This is to protect the runner from being doubled off. However if the runner leaves his base during a infield fly situation and is touched by the ball, both he and the batter are out. In the above situation the call would be, runner on second base called out. Ball is dead and the batter is credited with a hit, forcing the runner on first to second and the runner at third holds his position. Base loaded and two outs., this is assuming that the runner on 2nd base was in front of the infield.
