Yes. There is a red flag in a F1 race. A red flag is declared/shown when the race needs to be stopped for some reason. For example when there is a heavy rain and the driving conditions are very trecherous and the safety of the drivers can be jeopardised, the race marshalls can opt to show the red flag and stop the race.

A red flag signals that the current session is being stopped due to either a major crash blocking the track, heavy rain, or any other reason the race director deems necessary to stop the session. Cars must immediately slow down, are forbidden to pass one another and are to return to the pits.

When a Nascar race is red flagged it means that all drivers must stop driving and no crew member can work on a car on or off the track. Even if a car is behind the wall getting repaired, the crew members cannot touch it. The red flag is usually displayed after a major accident or track malfunction to allow the clean up or repairs to be performed on the track. It is also displayed for a long rain delay.

The black flag is shown to a driver who has been disqualified. The driver is required to report to the pits immediately, but in no more than three laps. The most recent case of a driver being disqualified in a race was at the Canadian Grand Prix in 2007 (I think), when several drivers drove through a red light at the end of the pitlane.

Other famous cases include Michael Schumacher at the British Grand Prix in 1995 and Nigel Mansell in 1989, just before he collided with the late great Ayrton Senna.
