Horseback riding is a sport. it has been around since horses were brought over by Christopher Columbus, were used in the wars, and is also in the Olympics. its on TV, and is watched by people all the time, there are horse shows, sales, and more than a million barns in the world. people believe the horse does all the work, but this is not true. you use all of your leg muscle and learn how to communicate through your seat and hands (more your seat) some of the professionals write books to tell people of they're riding experiences. my mother has had our barn for 12 years. I've been riding since i was two, love it and enjoy every moment of it. finding the right horse is hard sometimes but yes, riding is DEFIANTLY a sport.

I also consider it as a very adventurous sport. In both English and Western horse riding there are numerous options of sports.

1) Dressage: If you like individual competition and your horse has the potential for learning to respond well to subtle cues from you, then you might consider dressage.

2) Cross-country Riding: If you prefer more action and want to feel the heat of the race, you're likely to enjoy endurance riding or cross-country riding.

3) Jumping: Another popular event at many horse shows is jumping.

4) Eventing: is a combination of dressage, show jumping, and cross-country riding.

5) Driving: is a popular sport; keep in mind, though, that you will incur the expense of a cart or other type of horse-drawn vehicle.

6) At the high-action end of the spectrum are team sports such as polo, polocrosse, and horseball. Horse racing is also a high profile sport with plenty of excitement.

7) The Western Horse Riding Sports include breakaway roping, team roping, calf roping, bareback riding and saddle bronc riding are among the most exciting, albeit the most dangerous, of riding sports.

Thighs and waist- rising trot and jumping require a lot of balance, the movement from the horse and your required movement will improve you thighs and waist.

Actually, it is a workout for both the horse and the rider. If you ever ride a horse you will see what I mean. You work with balance, and so many things you don't even notice. And of course, the horse is working too.
