The strength required for Archery depends entirely on the bow you use. Anyone can use a kid's bow with a fifteen pound pull, but it takes a fair amount of muscle to draw a 65 pound hunting bow. Most common bows these days are "compound bows" that have a heavy initial draw, but using a collection of cams and cables, the draw lightens as you reach full pull--the advantage of that is that you can keep the pull, even with a heavy bow, long enough to get a good aim without having your muscles start to shake.

Heavy bows, by the way, provide flatter trajectories for arrows, making it easier to aim them at varying distances--use the heaviest bow you can comfortably draw. There are adjustable bows that allow you to increase the draw weight as you get stronger.
