There was no ancient Greek empire. The Greek world was originally a lot of independent city states. The Eastern part after Alexander the great became several Hellenistic Kingdoms which were progressively absorbed within the Roman Empire - Maedonia, Egypt and Syria in the 2nd and 1st Centuries BCE.

∙ 11y agoIn 167 BC Macedonia became a Roman province with the southern part of Greece under the rule of the governor of Macedonia. It was not until 27 BC that Augustus made the lower part of Greece into a separate province that the Romans called Achaea. As far as the actual invasion went, the Romans fought in Greece shortly after the Punic wars in order to punish the king of Macedonia for siding with Carthage.
