No you don't. However - when you make the turn make sure that your weight is balanced on the front of the skis, so that the back end of the skis do not dig into the ground. This is only effective if you are on hard packed snow, and might not work if it is soft and powdery snow.

What are partial twin tips?

Well, to start I will tell you what twin tips are just in case you don't know. Twin tips are skis that have tails (the back) that are exactly the same as the nose (the front) in that they usually have the same dimensions and always are bent upwards the same amount as the front, simple enough. Partial twin tips have tails that are bent upwards a little bit, still allowing the skier to be able to ski backwards safely, but not as much as the nose.

Is downhill skiing done differently in other countries?

Yes, actually. In some countries people ski with twin tip skis, skis where both ends are elevated so they can go backwards. In some countries people ski on one wide ski sideways in soft boots and drag their knuckles. In other countries people ski uphill even! On the moon, robots go skiing.

Are Rossignol skis good for powder skiing?

It really depends on the ski. Rossignol makes a lot of good racing skis (not so good for powder), but they also make a few skis that are good for powder. If a pair of skis has twin tips, than it will almost always be good for powder. On the rossignol website there is a little meter for each ski that tells you some of the specs of the ski and what kind of conditions that ski is then made for.

What are good twin tip skis?

It is a snowboard where the tip and tail are exactly the same width. This is the most common shape of a snowboard. There are two types of twin boards- a true twin and a directional twin. A true twin means the board is 100% symmetrical. The stance is centered, the flex is even, and the sidecut is radial. This is the shape you find mostly on freestyle boards. A directional twin has twin tips and sometimes a centered stance, but the flex is directional and/or the sidecut is progressive. This is the most versatile shape and is commonly found on all-mountain snowboards.

How do you ski backwards?

You weave in and out of a series of 5 feet tall gates inside the ground along a defined course. If you skip a gate you DNF "did not finish". The faster you complete the course the better. It is important to hit the gates every time you go for the gate...the correct gear will prevent you from getting hurt. If you find yourself not hitting the gate make your turns closer to the gate then once they are close enough to hit them, put you pole guard (hand) in-front of yourself to push the gate away. This is a good strategy but not needed. You also have Giant Slalom, Super G (Super Giant Slalom) and Downhill. These are faster variations of the traditional slalom. The course is longer and the flags are positioned further apart. This makes the course faster as you need to make less of a sharp curve to reach the next flag. Downhill being the fastest. In case you are talking about waterskiing, slalom is the same as in snow but with boueys floating on the water. they go in between gates and they if they miss one there is a penalty

What is the difference between twin tip skis and regular skis?

if by regular skis you mean downhill skis, then longjump skis are similar, but they are nearly twice as long and twice as wide-- the greater surface area makes the ski jumper accelerate faster, thereby allowing him to travel farther off of the jump
