A cricket test match spans 5 days. This entails two batting and two bowling innings' per side. Depending on weather the test match can be shortend to any number of days but each team still has the same number of innings'.
There will be two innings of 20 overs each with 2 breaks of 2.5 minutes each during each innings. There will be a 10 min break between innings. Usually it takes 1.5 hours on an average per side to finish their batting and the whole match usually ends in around 3 hours.
As of January 2011, Zimbabwe's most recent Test match took place on September 20 - 22, 2005, in a ten-wicket defeat to India. Waddington Mwayenga played his first and final Test match for the side on this date, and left the cricketing stage less than six months later,
In the sport of cricket, a dismissal occurs when the batsman is out (also known as the fielding side taking a wicket and/or the batting side losing a wicket). At this point a batsman must discontinue batting and leave the field permanently for the innings except in the case of acting as a runner. A bowling team dismisses (or bowls out) the entire batting team by dismissing 10 of the 11 players (assuming player(s) from the batting team have not retired hurt or are absent). As the players bat in pairs, when only one person is undismissed, it is not possible for them to bat any longer.
Two teams, both with 11 players, who take it in turns to bat and bowl. When one team is batting, they try and score as many runs as they can by hitting the ball around an oval field. A run is defined as running between either end of a 22-yard area called wicket which is a grassed area . The other team must get them out by bowling the ball overarm at the stumps, which are at either end of a 22-yard area called a wicket. A batsman protects his stumps A batsman protects his stumps The bowling team can get the batsmen out by hitting the stumps or catching the ball. Other ways of getting out Once the batting team is all out, the teams swap over and they then become the bowling side. Each time a team bats it is known as their innings. Teams can have one or two innings depending on how long there is to play. The Ashes Test matches are over five days so England and Australia have two innings each to score as many runs as they can. Whoever scores the most runs wins. But a cricket match can be drawn too. That happens when the team bowling last fails to get all the batsmen out. But this is only when there are two innings per team. If there is one innings, the only way a match can be drawn is if the two teams score the same amount of runs.
The number of innings in a baseball game depends on the level of competition. In Major League Baseball a complete game is normally nine (9) innings. Games that are called due to weather or games that are forfieted can be less than nine (9) innings. Games that go into extra innings can be played until the last out is made or until the winning run is scored.
The follow on is when the team batting second is forced to bat again immediately after completing their first turn at bat. This may be enforced at the option of the fielding side if the team batting second fail to get within 200 runs of the 1st innings score. Note the fielding side can choose to bat as normal is they wish to. The team batting first may then bat again in the forth innings if the need to. An example Team A 450 (1st innings) Team B 220 (2nd innings) Team B following on 230 behind 320 (3rd innings) Team A 91/2 wins by 8 wickets (4th innings)
Win OutrightThe side scoring an aggregate of runs in excess of the total runs made by the opposite side in its two completed innings shall be an outright winner.
In any cricket match there are a total of 6 stumps. 3 on either side of the pitch. This number is standard and does not change based on the format of the game. Be it test match or ODI or 20-20 there are only 6 stumps used in a cricket match.
The number of runs by which a team must lead to enforce follow-on upon its opponent is determined by Law 13 of the Laws of cricket, which takes the length of the match into consideration: In a match of five days or more, a side which bats first and leads by at least 200 runs has the option of requiring the other side to follow-on. in one of three or four days, 150 runs; in a two-day match, 100; in a one-day (two-innings per side) match, 75.
