He won a batting title (1949), and was named the National League's Rookie of the Year (1947) and Most Valuable Player (1949). He appeared in six World Series, all of them against the New York Yankees (1947, 1949, 1952, 1953, 1955 and 1956). The Dodgers won their only world championship in Brooklyn in 1955. After his retirement, Robinson was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962, his first year of eligibility.
