So when in port put a padlock or seal on the valve to the sea discharge position and when out at sea make a note of your position in the log book before emptying the holding tank into the sea a good sailor would fit a macerator pump to the discharge side of the holding tank. If this is not suitable for your boat it is better to use a porta potti whilst in port.
