Both fighters will have had to have signed contracts and releases prior to the match or as part of the preliminaries for the fight. HOWEVER - on the other hand - if the match was not properly conducted and was simply an un-sanctioned fight between two people the person inflicting the fatal injury might be charged with manslaughter, and the promoters of "the match" could also be criminally charged.
