Hi, Rob here, in Melbourne, Australia.
I rode Surf Ski every Saturday & Sunday all year round from 1964 to 1972, from my age 9 yrs > 17 yrs, mostly 4' >6' waves, sometimes 15' > 30'.
When there was no surf I would ride my Skiffle Board.
Spinning the board as you throw it makes it a more stable & reliable throw, you run after it & jump on. The spin of the board stops when you jump on.
Skiffle Boards were meant to be ridden on 5 mm > 10 mm of water. ( hard to find on many beaches, and usually only at low tide.)
I used to ride on the water that runs back after a wave has washed up the beach. There is always enough swell for a beach break at all levels of tide. Riding a Skiffle board on a sloping beach results in a turn towards the beach break & if timed correctly results in a collision with the next wave, catapulting the rider into deeper water.
8 yrs. ago I made 2 new skiffle boards (a large and a medium size) for my sons.
I had lots of fun teaching my boys how to ride them.
I told my dad about our fun and he found the old board I used to ride many years ago, it was much smaller than I remembered. I now have 3 sizes.
The larger board is better for heavier riders and gives a longer ride.
Hope all this waffle helps.
King of Skiffle was created on 2000-04-11.
It's not clear that Lennon particularly liked skiffle music, but skiffle music was quite easy to play and could be played with cheap instruments - a typical skiffle band was guitar, soapbox bass (made from a wooden box, a broom handle and some string) and a washboard. Because it was so cheap, many skiffle groups started up in the late 1950s. Lennon's band was one of these.
Scotsman, Lonnie Donnegan
skiffle is a type of music. Usually home made instruments, with a jazz sort of sound. and boom, im guessing is just a reference to the time it came around, like baby boomers.
Lonnie Donegan went by The King of Skiffle.
They began as the Quarry Men, a skiffle group playing folk music, and sometimes Country & Western songs. Skiffle died out after awhile, but rock-n-roll had become popular. They changed styles to keep up.
John started this skiffle group in March of 1957.
He loved music, and when the skiffle music craze started in England, John became caught up in it and started his own group. Skiffle was a very primitive type of rock music, with only guitar and drums, if a drummer could be found.
Piffle or skiffle But if you meant rifle, rhyming words would be Eiffel, stifle, trifle
Before The Beatles were called The Beatles, they were known as The Quarrymen. It originally consisted of just John Lennon and several friends, but George Harrison and Paul McCartney joined later. They played skiffle music, which is a type of folk music with blues, jazz, and country influences. Skiffle is often considered a precursor to rock and roll. You can hear a few of these skiffle songs on the Beatles Anthology, and on a bootleg recording called The Decca Records Audition Tapes.
Mostly skiffle and bluesy type stuff.
Skiffle, with a bit of country, folk and rock-n-roll.
