Legally you need to check your local zoning laws at it varies in different states, and even counties or towns. A lot of areas dictate an acre for one horse and half an acre for every horse there after. However for a good standard of care an acre and a half to two acres of well maintained land is recommended per horse.

Normally, you would need 5 to 10 acres to own a horse. However, in different states, they will/probably have a different amount than the state Wisconsin.

If owning a horse or getting one (1), you should consider getting one from a shelter local to your home. ( Just a tip of advice to consider:)

Well, for an inexperienced rider, you would want to buy an older horse (probably 8 or older, well trained). If you are veryexperienced and are able to train a horse, you could buy a green horse (untrained), which would be much less expensive, but you need to have a LOT of time to train it, and be willing to fall off a lot, haha.

I believe 6 or 7 is a good age to get a horse. but you need to investigate the horse, soem horses may have been forgotton about in the paddock and are not broken in till they are 5 or 6 therefore making them no more experienced than a 3 year old that has been broken in. If you get a horse a 6 0r 7 you have plenty of time to do what you want with it and it hasn't developed too many bad habits with its previous owners, also if you decide to sell it on after 3 or four years it is still at a nice working age.

What is a double registered horse?

A horse is considered double registered when it is registered with two different horse registries. Like for instance, say you have a palomino Quarter horse, you can register that horse with the American Quarter Horse Association and because of it's color you can also register it with the Palomino Horse Breeders Association, and it would then be double registered.
