How old do you have to be to be able to be a referee for ice hockey?

You can be as young as 16, you just wont be refereeing any big games. You will start by refereeing 10 and unders and then depending on how you do from there you will move on to more important games.

USA hockey is around 13, You will start at level 1 doing games for Atoms, Mighty Mites and Mite hockey.

General rule is you are unable to do games above your age all you need at Level 1 is to complete the online USA Hockey exam and attend one seminar.

You can stay at level 1 if you wish and only have to do the online test each year or at the end of your first year or you can move to level 2 and take the online and book test at a seminar.

The earlier the better if you would like to make referring a career.
