So to replace a traditional 60-watt bulb, buy a 15-watt CFL: 60-watt incandescent / 4 = 15 watts. Note: Some brands of 60-watt equivalent CFLs still do not seem to give off as much light as a 60watt incandescent bulb.

What is equal to 60 watt in CFL?

If the question is what wattage compact fluorescent (CFL) lamp has a similar light output to an incandescent lamp of a given wattage, the ratio is usually about 4. A 60W incandescent can be replaced by an 13-15 W CFL lamp. A 60W CFL lamp can replace a 300W incandescent lamp.

How many watts did CFL uses?

Depends on the light. Typically about 1/8th of the wattage used by an equivalent standard bulb.

Does the life of a light bulb depend on its wattage?

Yes, Of Course The lifetime depends on the wattage. The wattage is the amount of Power the light bulb uses, and the life time depends on the power. Thank you

Why are CFL wattage ratings wrong as the light may be rated for xx watts but when checked with a wattage meter the actual usage is significantly higher?

Usually a CFL has two ratings. The first is wattage and the second is in mA I suspect the wattage is only the wattage of the bulb itself and the second is the actual current draw of both the light bulb and the ballast. They are not compatible. If you figure the mA and multiply times the voltage you will obtain close to the actual wattage of the combination of the bulb and the ballast. I have a 100 watt Feit BPESL25T which indicates it draws 25 Watts when it actually draws 47.5 Watts. Very close to the mA (400 x 120 VAC =48 Watts) indicated on the base. Almost all CFLs I've tested with my very accurate Fluke RMS meter draw twice the wattage they indicate. Not such a good deal.

Is there a compact fluorescent bulb that's equivalent to a 120V bulb?

As long as the CFL has an intermediate base it can be interchangeable with any ordinary light bulb that has an intermediate base. Look on the packaging as to comparability. Look on the box for equivilant outputs between lamps to compare wattage bulbs to CFL's.

To much for your mom.

How much wattage does a light bulb need?

The wattage needed for a light bulb depends on the brightness desired. For example, a typical 60-watt incandescent bulb produces around 800 lumens. Energy-efficient LED bulbs can produce the same amount of light using much less wattage, typically around 8-10 watts.

Can a CFL bulb be used with a pull chain switch?

Yes, it can. CFL's are good- they don't burn as much and they're good for the environment.

Are all compact flourescent bulbs (CFL's) of the same wattage created equal?

Yes, there are now government regulations on engery efficent lights, so this means they are all created the same way.

Can you go above the recommended wattage with the new CfL bulbs?

I am not sure how you would accomplish that in a home environment? You would have to increase the Voltage somehow. CFL bulbs have electronic circuitry in their bases. That circuitry would be more sensitive to Voltage changes than a simple filament bulb. You could expect a shorter 'Life' of the bulb at a higher voltage. You can exceed the equivalent light output, but not the actual maximum wattage for a fixture. If the fixture is rated for 75 watts maximum, you can install a 23 watt CFL, even though the "equivalent" light output is equal to a 100 watt incandescent. The light fixtures are rated based on their ability to dissipate heat or the power handling capacity you will not exceed either as long as the actual wattage is below the rated capacity.

What are some recessed lighting models that use the new CFL bulbs?

Most recessed lighting will use a CFL as you can now get much smaller CFL bulbs. The Juno Lighting Group ICPL626E (65$) and the Halo H272ICAT (40$) are both designed to use CFL bulbs.
