Best Answer

In 2007, the Indy Racing League (IRL) mandated the switch from methanol fuel to fuel-grade ethanol for the IndyCar Series. This mandate reduced the fuel tank capacity from a thirty-three (33) gallon tank to a twenty-two (22) gallon tank.

This would depend on how many miles the race is. In the IRL there are races from 191.9 miles at Mid-Ohio to 500 miles at Indy. The fuel mileage of an IRL IndyCar Series car is less than two miles per gallon. A car burns approximately 1.3 gallons of fuel per lap at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The average NASCAR racer gets about 4.5 miles per gallon of fuel. Divide the distance in miles by 4.5, multiply by the number of cars.

None, because Indy cars don't run on gas.

The fuel cell on an IndyCar holds 22 gallons of alcohol.
