The earnings can not be averaged out by retired players in general. Each retired player's earning would be based on the demand for the signature of that particular player.
A promoter would pay the player a set amount of money for a determined amount of signatures signed. The promoter would then add to the price of each signature to make a profit. This will also vary based on the popularity of the player, and the demand for the signature. I don't know the current rates the players are getting today.
In the late 1980's Mickey Mantle would earn about $10,000. to sign for a couple of hours or so. For a live public signing a promoter would pay Mantle based on about 1,000 signatures signed, and charge a flat rate of about $15. per signature.
As the autograph business grew in popularity, and it was realized that signing a Baseball or a bat would be more difficult, and take longer to sign than a photo more money was charged to sign those items. In the 1990's Joe DiMaggio having Arthritis in his hand, had a hard time signing baseballs. A higher premium was charges to have Joe sign baseballs, and there might have been a few shows where he did not sign baseballs at all.
To find out the price of what a particular player earns you would have to contact the players agent that represent the player for signings. In general the player is probably getting about two thirds or less than what the promoter is charging. Rates will vary based on popularity and demand for the signature.
