Equipment costs for Bantam players and under (ages 14 and under) are generally pretty reasonable as you can get equipment from hockey swap meets. For Midget players are up, (ages 15 and up) the cost can easily be $1000 per year or more. Skates along for Rep or Midget AA or AAA players are easily $700 to $1,200 per year and the kids can go thru two pairs a year.
