In club competition it is either who has the lowest nett score (gross score- handicap) or gross score if it is a scratch competition. If it is a stableford competition the winner is who has the most points. In pro golf it is nearly always stroke play and whoever has the lowest total score after usually 4 rounds is the winner. If it is a match, matchplay is used, whoever has won more aggregate holes than there is left is the winner.
