Zenyatta ran her first race in November of her three year old year. Since she did not compete as a two year-old or early in her three year-old season she hadn't competed in any of the qualifying races that precede the triple crown.

Watching live racing on ESPN Classic where Zenyatta is running in the Lady's Secret Stakes (10/10/09). The ESPN commentators said she is 16.2 hands high but the accompanying graphic showed her at 17.2. Either way, she is a very tall mare.
