It is a tennis score, meaning that the server has no points
If you're referring to set scores, the superscript means that the set went to a tiebreak, and indicates the points won. E.g., a set score of 7-6 (9) means that the winner of the set won with a score of 9-7 in the tiebreak.
Until 2001 a table tennis game was played up to 21 points. But in order to make the game more exciting, have more "crucial" points, and make it more appealing to television viewers, the rules of table tennis were changed. A game of table tennis is now played up to 11 points. The winner is the player or pair who first scores 11 points, unless both players or pairs score 10 points (called deuce). Then a game will be won by the first player or pair to gain a two point lead. A match is the best of an odd number of games - usually 3, 5 or 7 games.
A game of table tennis is the first player to score 11 points. However if the score reaches 10 points each, a player must then win by two clear points.
Deuce is where both players are on 40 in a match of tennis
3 Points
In a tennis match without a chairperson, the server always calls the score before every point in order to avoid any disputes in the score.
A set in a tennis match consists of games. A game is won by winning 4 points going from, 15, 30, 40 to game. If the score is 40-40, then a player must win 2 points in a row to win the game. Once a player wins a game, it is scored 1-0. This is called the set score, to win a set the player must win 6 games but also must win by two. If the score is 5-5, the player can only win by getting 7-5 or in a tiebreak. A tiebreak occurs when the score is 6-6, then they play to win 7 points. Also you must win the tiebreak by two points, once this is achieved then the winner of the tiebreak wins the set 7 to 6.
Table tennis features a continuous scoring system. This means that you can score points when it is your opponents serve.
The first person to score eleven points in a ping pong game is declared the winner unless both players score ten points then the winner will be determined by whoever scores an extra two points.
