You can enter the NFL Draft with three years of college education. Many football players will redshirt as a freshman which is the NCAA legal way of giving a student five eligible years of football at college. You may see people enter the draft as a sophomore, however the redshirted so it is actually their 3rd year in college.
NCAA says 125 players is the max per college, 85 on scholarship max. Figure 20% to 25% are Seniors. My best estimate is average 20 to 25. Of those, 300 to 325 total get agents and enter the NFL Draft. 255 get drafted. Some get to play.
The exact number of Division 1 college football players is unknown. However there are a total of 80,000 college football players across all divisions.
