After a quick Wiki comparison, it appear that this has happened 4 times through 2008: the 1970 Orioles with the Colts winning the Super Bowl in January, 1971; The '79 Pirates with the Steelers winning both the '79 and '80 super bowls; the '86 Mets with the Giants winning the January, 1987 Super Bowl, and the 2004 Red Sox with the Patriots winning the February, '05 super bowl. There were also 2 close calls: the '80 Phillies with the Eagles losing the Jan '81 super bowl, and in 1989 the A's defeated the Giants across the bay in the World Series, and the '49ers won the January, 1990 super Bowl.

The New York Jets won Super Bowl III, played January 12, 1969 and the New York Mets won the 1969 World Series. 2) The first city to have a team win a Super Bowl and World Series in each sport's respective season was Pittsburgh. For the sport's 'season', that would be Pennsylvania with the Philadelphia Phillies winning the 2008 World Series and the Pittsburgh Steelers winning Super Bowl XLIII, the championship for the 2008 NFL season (although the Super Bowl was played in 2009). For the same calender year, that would be Massachusetts in 2004 when the Red Sox won the 2004 World Series and the Patriots won Super Bowl XXXVIII played February 1, 2004.
