One player that played in at least one game in the NFL in the 2009 season was from Spotsylvania County. That was offensive tackle Jermon Bushrod, born in Fredericksburg, that played for the New Orleans Saints. Bushrod has been with the Saints since 2007.

Two other former players were born in Fredericksburg ... linebacker Ed Beard who played with the San Francisco 49ers between 1965-1972 and defensive back George Coghill who played with the Denver Broncos between 1998-2001.

Also Steve Atkins, a running back who played for the Packers and Eagles between 1979-1981, was born in Spotsylvania County.
