There is no set age for when basketball players retire. Some retire early due to injuries. Players generally retire, however, when they are about 35. When they are far past their prime and injuries plague their play, players are bound to retire.

Whilst the game is an excellent sport it really is a brutal game compared to many because of the lack of padding (seen in some sports). Many players suffer tendon and muscle strains, head and neck injuries are the norm as is the gathering of bruising to just about all parts of the body. Tackling whilst a main part of the game has developed over the past 5 years and the hits are now enormous with injuries to knee's, and shoulders happening on a game by game basis. Many players leave the sport at quite a young age. Forwards are amongst the most prone to injury due to rucking and scrummaging.
