Which is larger Calgary or Edmonton?

First of all, it is entirely opinion. Calgary and Edmonton have a running thing going, where apparently "all" people from Calgary hate Edmonton, and vice versa. Which isn't actually true, for the most part. This probably mostly comes from hockey. Most Calgarians are extremely defensive of their team, the Calgary Flames, and tend to often dislike opposition. Edmonton's team, The Oilers, is certainly Calgary's least favourite team. Why, I am not sure. If you go into Chinook mall, many T-shirts with the oilers logo are available, except they say "Losers" in the middle.Calgary is larger and has a stronger economy.

Why don't the Edmonton Oilers fire Craig mactavish?

MacTavish's lack of experience, considerable shortcomings as a coach, and his mediocre 7-year record are all overlooked due to nepotism on the part of his friend, Oilers GM Kevin Lowe. The two made a pact in their days as roommates with the New York Rangers that when one got a GM job they would hire the other. The Oilers have always been an insiders-only, old-boys-from-the-glory-years organization, and they get away with it because their fans have always accepted it. Every year, the rationalizations and excuses flow like wine. The Oilers are a western version of Leafland, where the lemmings ignore the mediocrity and blindly follow because they are apparently incapable of demanding accountability.

Why were the Winnipeg Jets introduced to the NHL in 1979?

The Jets were one of four teams from the World Hockey Association (WHA) to join the National Hockey League in 1979. The others were the Hartford (New England) Whalers, Edmonton Oilers, and Quebec Nordiques. These were four of the most stable and successful franchises in the WHA, which was a second major hockey league founded in 1972 to compete with the NHL. The WHA and NHL agreed to merge in 1979, and as part of the merger the NHL agreed to accept the Jets, Whalers, Oilers, and Nordiques as new NHL franchises.

When were the Tennessee Titans formed?

The Tennessee Titans began play in 1960 as the Houston Oilers and were one of the charter teams of the American Football League. The Oilers moved to Tennessee in 1997 and were known as the Tennessee Oilers for the 1997 and 1998 seasons, playing home games in 1997 in Memphis and 1998 at Vanderbilt Stadium. Their new stadium, LP Field in Nashville, was completed before the 1999 season and Bud Adams, the owner of the team, wanted to change the name to reflect power and leadership. Titans was agreed upon, in part because Nashville is known as the 'Athens of the South', and since then the team has been known as the Tennessee Titans.

What year did Wayne Gretzky graduate?

Wayne Gretzky was never drafted into the NHL. In 1978 he was signed to the Indianapiolas Racers of the WHA (World Hockey Assosication). He was soon after traded to the Edmonton Oilers, which were then also part of the WHA. In 1979, the WHA folded and the Oilers transferred to the NHL. Most players were sent into the entry draft, but due to a specialty in his contract, Gretzky enjoyed the luxury of staying with the Oilers. Gretzky was also never drafted into the WHA. The NHL regulations say no team can sign a player under 20 years old. The WHA allowed this, so Gretzky just signed with the Racers instead of being drafted.
