It depends. In general, a well balanced and well constructed racket will enhance your movement and control of the shuttle, however, many high-end rackets are heavier and very stiff which makes them difficult to use unless if you have a strong arm and a well developed stroke. In return they usually provide more power and control if used correctly. The racket string also helps you to play better by providing more power and control. Many of the stock racket strings are too loose to be any good, in general most people string between 20lb and 24lb.

It is now made from titanium and plastic strings and is much more light weight than before

[More recently]

Badminton racquets are now made of carbon allotrope shafts, such as fullerene, as they are more flexible and lighter (although not for every racquet). Nylon strings are now more common as well

There are some advantages, that is for sure. First I would say the material is of great importance, as this contributes to the overall weight and strength of the racket. Obviously, the lighter the racket, the quicker the response time of the player. Strength is as important, as the lightest material should endure the strength of the player, without the loss of power due to the bending of the material. Other advantages is the catapult reaction you would get with certain rackets, witch increases the performance by reasonable percentage. Also for reasons of health, certain rackets will have less shock than others, witch also makes a big difference in the long run.
