The fastest human being on the planet (that we know of) is Usain Bolt of Jamaica who holds the world record for 100 meters at 9.58 seconds. Thus in one hour he can run (3600/9.58)x100 meters. This is 37 578 meters or 37.58 km per hour. To convert to miles you divide by 1.609. This results in a speed of 23.355 miles per hour. Usain also holds the world record for the 200 meters at an amazing 19.19 seconds (World Athletics Championships, Berlin Germany, August 2009). His speed is thus close to that attained in his 100 meters. However he was not a full throttle throughout the race as he was not being seriously challenged by any of the other finalists. One wonders what speed he could attain if he went at full blast all the way to the tape.
