Of course it depends on the player, but these are some typical distances for amateur men in good condition:

PW 100 yds
9I 110 yds
and so on, ten more yards per club.

240 yds is a good swing with a driver, 220 yds from a 3W, and 200 from a 5W are pretty typical.

These are for the ones that don't go Into the Woods, get skulled into the ladies tee box, are shanked into the cart, etc. So maybe they're not so typical. :-).

Basically, Drivers are used to hit the ball the farthest. Woods and irons are used for mid-range shots, and putters are used for short range. Utility clubs such as wedges are used for special situations like being in a sand trap.

Each club is designed to be hit exactly the same way and if they are hit with the same strength each time the club "face" will determines how far the ball will travel. Otherwise you wouldn't need different clubs. A 2 iron will travel longer and lower than a 9 iron which travels shorter and higher.

I'm adding to the previous answer which I see to be a pathetic attempt at addressing the question. Now I will state my novice observations. I've seen guys hit their 9 iron (off the tee) on a 155 yd. par 3 and go long. I've also seen guys who couldn't hit a solid 9 more than 110 yds. On ideal shots, I stress, IDEAL, I hit my driver 260-300, 3 wood 220-250, I don't own a 5 wood but my hybrid is 200-230, 4 iron 180, 5 iron 170, 6 iron 155, 7 iron 145, 8 135-140, 9 iron 125-130, PW 100-115. This does not account for "off the tee" shots. I've hit my 8 iron off the tee, 160yds. on a downhill shot. I don't actually know anyone who still uses a 2 iron. Rule of thumb, your longest iron shot, drop 15 yards as you go up an iron i.e. 160 with your 5 iron mean 145 with your 6 iron.
