The center of the goal is 13 feet 9 inches from the back of the free throw line.

From the center of the goal to the backboard it is 1 foot 3 inches.

13' 9" + 1' 3" = 15 '

Typical placement of the backboard is to have its back 15 feet from the back of the free throw line, and inside the base line by 4 feet. This is why the arc falls off at

5 feet 3 inches ( 63") from the base line. ( The beginning of the corners )
