Intrinsic motivation- determination to be competent and self determining, enjoyment and satisfaction of achieving is what motivates some people

Extrinsic motivation- external rewards such as trophies and badges to show their achievement's environmental or tangible evidence of winning is what motivates some people

anxiety and arousal - arousal can affect the persons performance it's the intensity of the drive an athlete has to win this can lead to anxiety which causes stress. in other words the higher the arousal better the performance

performance = Arousal x Skill level

Motivation is the drive to do something, the self discipline to do more; if you have low motivation then you will not be pushed hard to do well. In sports performance when you are not motivated you will not perform at your maximum ability. Whereas if you are fully motivated then you will give yourself a better chance to acheive your goal.

Im a gymnast and i know that if one shows up to their practice ready to give 100% that they will infact do better than the one giving 50% or 75% . Its all about dedication and attitude! A coach will pick a happy hard working person to be on their team even if the lazy sad person is better!
