They create down force on the car for more traction and car control. F1 Spoilers act in the same way as an airplane wing, only upside down, creating low pressure areas under the spoilers. They create down force on the car for more traction and car control.

The spoiler on the rear of the car is for downforce on the rear wheels,so as the car races the air pushes down on the spoiler and gives the rear tyres more grip on the road.it also stops the car taking of like an aeroplane as if this spoiler was not installed, the car would just lift of the road like a plane taking off,so it gives the car more stability on the road, helps with aerodynamics, thus helping the car to go faster.

Most race cars don't have "spoilers". A spoiler is used to spoil turbulent air flowing from the top of a car to the trunk area, which can reduce a lot of drag. What you are asking about is called a "wing". A rear wing works by damming air on the rear trunk lid, creating a high pressure area. This high pressure area increases the normal force on the rear tires, increasing traction. Keep in mind that these effects increase exponentially with speed, rendering them virtually useless at low speeds (under 50 mph).
