There are 5 basic ways to stop on skates:
1)Snow Plow Stop- Coming to an abrupt stop by pushing the side of your blade hard into the ice
2)Toe Pick Stop- With one skate, lightly drag the toepick on the surface of the ice which will gradually bring you to a stop.
3)V Stop- Bring toes together to form a V shape.
4) Run into a wall/other stable object.
5)Grab on to someone else (not reccomended:)
raise the toes of the front foot and push down on the heel brake
To improve your technique for stopping on ice skates, focus on using the "snowplow" or "hockey stop" method. Bend your knees, angle your skates in a V-shape, and apply pressure to the inside edges of your skates to create friction and slow down. Practice this technique consistently to build muscle memory and improve your stopping ability on the ice.
