How do you play captain and crew golf?

Step1 Assign each player a number one through four. Start with player 1 and rotate through 4. Rotate the order of play at each hole.

Step2 Have the first player tee off. This player becomes the captain. Have the captain choose a partner from one of the consecutive players. Pick a partner after the captain hits his ball and before the next player hits. Do not change partners.

Step3 Let the captain play solo if he is not satisfied with any of the hits. Have the captain play against the other team of three, "the crew."

Step4 Win the round by having a better ball score than the opposing team. Count a tie as a wash and a higher score as lost to the crew. Give the solo player double the points for a win, or have him pay double the points to each of the crew for a loss.

Step5 Vary the game by the captain announcing his choice to play solo immediately after he tees off. Triple all points and losses when the captain chooses this play.

Step6 Up the ante by having the captain announce solo play before he hits his ball. Quadruple all points.
