Ways to swim 50m freestyle in a competition is:

1. After the dive you must do 8-10 kicks underwater (dolphin kick), as you are the fastest when you dive into the water, so you want to keep keep that pace for 3 seconds.

2. When you break from the water (the stroke that gets you started) you must (if you want to improve by 1 second) limit your breathing in the first length. What this does is to keep your body still so you don't have to breathe a lot: therefore making a faster swim.

3. When you take your first turn, make sure you keep streamlined. Do 4-6 dolphin kicks because you will go faster rather than just breaking the water when pushing off the wall. All your opponents will be tired and will miss out the kick, but doing the kick will make you half a body length faster than the other opponents who didn't kick.

4. Finally, a good tip is to finish fast and powerful at the wall as if you are tying1st place. You want to make sure you use absolutely all of your mettle and physical power to finish. Keep your head down (no breathing) and kick as much as you can.

Well, that is not very fast but the key to any freestyle sprint is a fast turnover rate. This means how many strokes you take per a given amount of time. Also, try not to breathe at all and keep your head down.

I am presently training for competition at the Paralympics in London next September 2012. There is a Paralympic Division within the United States Olympic Organization. The Paralympics will take place immediately following the Olympics. The Olympics will start in August 2012.

Although there are many ways to train to win a swim event, it is important that one select the right training regimen for them. The 50 meter freestyle is one of the events I will swim in and I plan on winning GOLD. Here is the strategy.

Training Regimen:

A. Pool Time---Six days each week for a minimum of two hours and a maximum of three hours:

1, Always begin with a slow and steady warmup. You can use any stroke you

want to while warming up. Make it fun. Warmup for about 15-20 minutes;

2. Now begin some moderately-paced (not racing) 25 meter sprints. Do about

15 of these with 20 seconds rest between each swim;

3. Now begin some moderately-paced (not racing) 50 meter sprints. Do about

15 of these with 60 seconds rest between each swim;

4. After you rest for about five to ten minutes, have someone time you in the

50 meter freestyle. You can do a dive start or a water start, but if you plan

to go to the Olympics, you had better learn to DIVE! Have this videotaped

and study it immediately and afterwards over and over. Record your swim

in a book that you will always keep with you in your workout bag. For true,

real, competitive 50 meter freestyle racing of a high caliber approaching the

Olympic guys and gals, you need to be swimming the 50 meter freestyle at

an average of 2 meters per second which would mean you would swim the

event in 25 seconds which is a very good time. Cielo of Brazil has the Olympic

Record of 21.30;

5. Pool Drills

1) Finger-tip Drag Drill

2) Closed-Fist Drill

3) Catch-up Drill

4) Kicking Drills--short, rapid kicking

5) Dolphin-kick Drills--this is the fastest way to move through the water.

At the Olympics, one must surface within 15 meters after diving and

assuming the Dolphin Kick

6) Breathing drills-Tom Jager (Olympian) would take three (3) breaths in

his 50 meter races. I would recommend no more than four breaths,

but no less than three (3). You don't want to "burnout" during the

race, you want to stay "energized" throughout the race. You need to

determine exactly ahead of time where and at what point you will

breathe. Establish markers on the pool bottom or use whatever

markers you can develop;

6. Land-based Drills (Strength Training)

1) Sit-ups

2) Push-ups

3) Leg extension and leg flexion drills

4) 15-30 minute moderate jogs three-four times each week

7. Nutrition

1) Stay hydrated-water, Gatorade, Cranberry Juice

2) Salt-free or low-salt foods

3) Fruits , vegetables, 100 % whole wheat bread (no butter)

4) A One-A-Day Multivitamin Tablet

5) NO (NONE) ALCOHOL!

6) NO (NONE) SMOKING!

8. Rest-get plenty of rest and sleep

NO ALL NIGHT PARTYING!

9. GET A COACH or COACHES. They can see what you are doing and can explain

things to you. It is very important to have coaching because things can be

corrected as soon as they need to be corrected;

10. LASTLY. No one said it was going to be EASY! But if you are truly sincere

and willing to do the work, you should see substantial progress as you

"swim along". Your swim times will "talk" with you letting you know how

you are doing. There will be many times when you feel like "giving it all up",

but stay in there and WIN THAT FIRST PLACE IN THE 50 METER FREESTYLE

SWIM EVENT. That is what I will be doing in the Paralympics in the 50 meter

freestyle event in London next summer 2012. You'll be able to see me

swim the race via tv.
