Every time the ball is thrown through the air, either in a pass or a shot, it will travel on a parabolic path, meaning the path will look like an arch if viewed from the side. Every time you hear the players shoes squeal, the force of friction is helping the players accelerate (which means a change of speed or direction, not always just speeding up). That friction causes the shoes to vibrate, which vibrates the air molecules that surround the shoe. That vibration travels through the air, and you hear it as sound.
