"Working" cowboys are paid by the ranch owner. "Rodeo" cowboys have to win their events to collect prize money. "Urban" cowboys work at normal jobs 9-5 and hang out in country western bars at night. "Rhinestone" cowboys ... well, who knows

A pittance, however few real cowboys desire a different occupation.

You can make several thousand a week on the rodeo circuits. There is precious little that resembles what you believe to be a cowboy's life anymore. We still have horses, but SUV's and ATV's have replaced most of their functions.

In many ways: they watch for calving cows or cattle that have injuries or sicknesses that need to be doctored, they watch out for predators or varmints that may try to kill off some cattle or take newborn calves, they move cattle to a fresh grazing area, the list goes on.
