Angler fish get their name from the way they lure their prey. They lie on the sea floor awaiting their prey (a large amount of which is shell fish). It has a long filament on its head which resembles a wriggling worm that attracts smaller fish which its large mouth soon devours.
Almost all species of Angler fish live at depths of 1000 meters or more, in the pelagic zone. One species caught commercially is the goosefish (family Lophiidae), a muddy bottom fish.
