When you dive into water, your body undergoes rapid deceleration because the water is thicker than the air. Basically, as you slow down, you internal organs can slam into each other or your bones; this is one of the main cause of injury in car accidents. If you are falling fast enough (from a high enough height) the force of deceleration can cause your organs to rupture and fail, which may lead to your death. Jumping into water from a height of two stories is equally to falling onto a concrete sidewalk from the same height; if can beak bones and make it impossible for you to swim and cause you to drown.
