In either league, a player is allowed to be moved to any position at any time during the game. They cannot be moved to another position more than once in an inning. Therefore it is possible for one player to play all 9 positions in one game.

As we know, the designated hitter's job is to bat for the pitcher. There are two problems here, though: 1) The designated hitter already has a spot in the lineup and his batting position cannot be moved. 2) The player who was moved to pitch also has a spot in the lineup. Since he was not removed from the game he must bat in his batting position as well.

Who wears number 13 for the San Francisco Giants?

Does the infield fly rule apply to a bunted ball?

No, as long as it is a fair ball. Once the umpire signals the infield fly rule the batter is automatically out. However, if the ball is dropped and is ruled a foul ball, the umpire reverses his call and the batter continues his turn at bat. Nevertheless, the batter can not reach first from that batted ball. You will often find an umpire state "Infield fly, Batter is out if Fair". When the rule is in effect, the batter may not get on first base.

What softball position is MI?

Middle infield. Shortstop or 2nd base.

What position has priority over all other players for a fly ball?

Whoever calls for the fly ball should get it, but the shortstop controls the infield and the center fielder controls the outfield. An outfielder can call an infielder off of a fly ball too because it is easier to come in on a fly ball than to go out.

What do you do when your playing infield position?

Is it a hit for the batter when an infielder holds the ball instead of throwing it to a base to get an out?

If he catches the ball on the fly he is out. If he fields a ground ball and does no throw to first he is safe. If he pops up and the umpire rules "infield fly" he is out.

Can an outfielder catch an infield fly?

Any fielder is allowed to catch any fly ball he can. If you are referring to the infield fly rule: under this rule, the hitter is called out and play continues as if the fly were caught even if no one catches it. It does not matter who catches it, but if the ball drops, the runner can tag up and run at his risk. The rule is only called when the ball seems certain to be catchable. The purpose of the rule is to prevent an infielder from intentionally dropping pop-up in order to get a double play.

Did the shortstop position begin in the outfield then move into the infield?

I have always heard a couple of different answers to this question. The one that I think makes the most sense requires you to know that there used to be 4 outfielders and 3 basemen. In 1849, DL Adams invented the shortshop position by moving one of the outfielders in, basically having him "stop short" of his normal position (or possibly so that he could "stop the ball short" of the outfield). He realized that 3 outfielders would be able to handle almost any fly ball and that having another infielder "close the gap" between 2nd and 3rd would prevent a lot of ground-balls from getting past the infield.
